The Beckoning Cat or Maneki Neko is one of the most famous symbols of prosperity in the Land of The Rising Sun. Few Japanese business people would think of having a restaurant or store without the presence of this cute cat. The feline is almost always portrayed with at least one forepaw raised but it does come in many forms.

At home, you can place the Maneki Neko anywhere to attract good luck. Generally, it is believed that the ones which raise the left paw beckon people (customers) while the ones which raise the right paw attract money or good fortune to the establishment.
